Tavon's cap number is 8 mil but only a 3 mil cap savings we cut him. Looking at the wr market in FA, a guy like tavon is worth more than what we will be saving (4-7 imo). While this wasn't the plan going into FA I think he is worth the 3 mil we would save.

If we can trade him that's great, but at this point he is worth more to us than the savings cutting him will create a he fills two spots (rb and wr)

Yeah, I was wondering that too. No reason to cut him until we sign someone else at least.

Keep him so we can watch him run 2-3 end a rounds a game that every defense knows is coming? No thanks! Get rid of his ass.

I've said all along Tavon will stay unless someone trades for him which is highly unlikely...

Why would you eat 8 million to save 3 million? Doesn't make any sense...

Secondly did anyone notice how McVay used Tavon last year? Who's going to take over that roll? I don't see him going anywhere. If anything I think his roll will expand next season. He was injured and never had a chance to get in sync last season. With a year under his belt I think he'll still be our #1 decoy but will have a slightly expanded roll (as in catching balls down the field)...

Judge our new coach in his third year. After all our last coach was to game strategy what Yoko Ono was to the Beatles...

That was my prediction,,,

He wasn't cut early when all the deals were going down...

I felt he will be kept,,,,

his new assignment,,, decoy going on the deep routes since he still has speed.

I agree, he made some nice plays last year and he does stress the defense horizontally creating some lanes for Gurley to exploit. And I agree his role as a target in the passing game should expand this year.

I dunno with Watkins gone and a differential of 3 mil cap hit, Tavon's future is a legitimate question.

Last year, he was definitely the odd man out, no doubt. McVay lost confidence in him and the less Tavon was used the worse he got. I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes -( is he working hard? etc) But somewhere in there is talent and he seems like he isn't a bad locker room guy so maybe they should see how he looks in camp. Lord knows he should have fresh legs. Now there is a good coaching staff, a qb, a running game and oline. Why cant he produce the same or better than Watkins?

Really? He will never be anywhere close to Watkins. He can’t catch, and bigger db’s find it easy to cover him. He has speed, but it’s not elite, and he can’t seem to get away from defensive backs downfield.

I’m shocked that you would even mention him in the same breath as Watkins.

I don't like the money we gave him, but he does provide value to our team as endaround threat/decoy/backup rb/wr depth. Plus with Sammy gone he can get a few more shots down the field (he did beat Sherman on a fly a couple yrs ago).

600 yards. Is that such a high bar? I'm not saying that he is as good as Watkins but Watkins under performed with the Rams too. I am talking about matching Watkins last year. I think Tavon might have that in him. He has speed and like Watkins will force defenses to stretch the field.

Since the savings aren't much, I don't know he's not worth keeping as a guy to run that end around fake to open up things for Gurley.

Just amazes me that in 5 years, Rams have never involved him in the screen game.

I don’t trust his hands at all, be it lateral or pass or punt.

I agree. Keep Tavon for now, he can at least take the top off a defense. The biggest difference will be downfield blocking. Watkins was exceptional at that. Our pass offense will be about the same, but my guess is Gurley is impacted.

But was that worth $16 million a year? I don't think so.

I thought it was a foregone conclusion that TA was gone....McV basically dwindled his snaps as last season wore on so at the end of year he was and afterthought. But as FA has almost started they haven't released him, although they have allowed him to have discussions with other teams, and I wonder why would they allow this? The only answers I can come with are 1) They want TA to find himself a team and then they could work out some kind of trade or 2) They will simply pay the extra 3 mil and keep him or 3) They told him they were cutting him on Wednesday and go ahead and try to find yourself somewhere to go.

He can't run the precise routes when he lines up in the WR roll and if he can't do that then there isn't much room in a McVay game plan for him.

Get ready, little lady. Hell is coming to breakfast.

Let's move on, use the money up front on Ryan Jensen or a great LB or two

Yes for sure Tavon has speed like Watkins and also a bonus versus Watkins he is a RB and a good motion guy, BUT unlike Watkins he is does not command a double team and he is nowhere as good of a blocking receiver. Watkins is way more valuable, BUT not at 16m 30 guaranteed for like you say 600 yards and one more thing injury prone.

Snead did the right thing with Sammy. We can recapture the 600 yards and blocking with someone else for a fraction. We can find in FA or the draft a replica of Tavon for less imo. Me though if we could trade him is something I would like to do otherwise keep him for another year because we are eating 5 m anyway.

Did anyone not see Cooper choke in the playoffs, let's go one more year on Tavon.

You think they would let TA return punts again? I think they had to replace him as he was just making too many dumb mistakes....and I'm a big TA supporter.

TA's contract is fully GTD on 3/16...I would think we'll hear something soon if he's not in the Rams plans....otherwise, he'll be on the field in horns again this year.

Only saves 3 million if cut. Might as well keep him one more year, since watkins didnt get resigned.
