Green Bay Packers film room: Breaking down fourth round pick Vince Biegel

This is the second part in a prospect film series where we breakdown the tape of each of the Green Bay Packers‘ selections in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Vince Biegel‘s journey from Wisconsin native to Badger defensive playmaker and now Green Bay Packer outside linebacker has been well documented by the media these past few weeks. Much is expected from the kid from Wisconsin Rapids, maybe even more so than a typical fourth-round draft selection.

However, Biegel offers more than just a great story. He’s a very talented linebacker and provides depth at a position of need on the Packers roster.

Sure, Green Bay’s outside linebacker position features Clay Matthews and Nick Perry, but beyond that, there is plenty of uncertainty. Julius Peppers and Datone Jones departed in free agency, and there’s still no telling what Kyler Fackrell and Jayrone Elliott offer on the field.

Typically, teams who generate consistent pass rush in the NFL have three or four effective edge players they rotate in on defense. Biegel could play an important role at the outside linebacker position this season and even see significant playing time if Matthews or Perry miss any games because of injury.

So what does Biegel offer as a pass-rushing linebacker?

Let’s consider some of his film.

After going through about a dozen of his games from the past two seasons, I have noted four key traits that really stand out about his game. I will also discuss an area of his game he needs to work on improving going into the NFL.
