Wish we had resigned him and kept our first round pick. Gurley dominated out of 11 personnel because Watkins blocked. Is Cooks going to block? I'm worried about the Rams this year.

I like Sammy as well...but I can think of several reasons that are, in my opinion, higher on the list of reasons TG had a monster year.

1) The offense and specifically the QB displayed the ability to consistently move the ball forcing the defenses not to get caught with 8 in the box.
2) Getting Whit and Sully in the offseason
3) Kromer
4) Healthy offensive line

All of those would be ahead of Sammy blocking downfield....Also, Woods is a pretty good blocker in his own right.

McV wants that receiver that can take the lid off the D....he had it in Washington and tried to get it with Sammy but he and Goff just weren't connecting or jelling like it certainly appears Cooks is.

I'd make the same move a 1,000 times over. Cooks will put up a lot better numbers than Watkins did...

And remember this - No doubt Watkins is a dedicated blocker but IMO players either buy into a system or they don't. If Cooks buys in he'll block. Everyone on this O, just like last year, will want to see and do whatever it takes to help their fellow players succeed...

Judge our new coach in his third year. After all our last coach was to game strategy what Yoko Ono was to the Beatles...

"Worried about the Rams"??? Because of Sammy Watkins? You are aware that they replaced him, AND got better on defense right?

From what I've seen of the two players in the NFL so far, it's Cooks all day for me...in college it was a push (both awesome), but Cooks really seems to get the NFL game. Sammy blocked yeah, but seemed a little lost at times with us for whatever reason...

I like Sammy & won’t be surprised if he has a great year.
That being said, I’m more comfortable investing in Cooks than in Watkins.
I doubt he’s as good a blocker, but I’m sure he’s a willing blocker and will carry out his assignments.

Some people actually look for things to worry about. I was raised that way but I've been able to overcome that mindset for the most part.

If Sammy wanted to still be a Ram he would not have taken so many plays off last season.

He was supposed to be the guy who could out-muscle and out-jump any defender to get the ball and more often than not it was the opposite.

Robert Woods, our best WR last year, missed three straight games and Sammy stepped in and......regressed, while Kupp led the way for the receivers.

Best of luck Sammy but I saw enough.....plus he wanted a huge payday that he never earned. Maybe he’ll earn it with the Chiefs but don’t be surprised if he’s outplayed by another receiver.

Wish Sammy well but don’t miss him one bit. He was an effective blocking WR but his deficiencies in the pass game hurt the Rams ability to effectively stretch the defense. Too many jogged routes and half hearted attempts at some of the deep balls took away from all of the positives that Sammy provided in run support. I would worry more about replacement of his red zone targets as his big body was effective in those situations. I think the development of Everett and Higbee will ease those concerns. Sammy has the potential to be a great player but his injury concerns and his history of spotty production over his career made signing him to a significant contract much more of a calculated gamble than the investment in a proven commodity like Brandon Cooks. I think the Rams improved their WR core this offseason.

No comparison. The last 3 years Cook had almost over 1100 yards per season. Sammy had 1 good year. He was hurt in college and as a pro. Cook may not be as good of a blocker, but he makes up for it with his speed and yards per season.

Cooks is a solid upgrade.

Nothing against Sammy, I wish him well....but I watched him here in Buffalo and then with the Rams and I'm glad he didn't get a big contract here...we are way better off with Cooks imo

I liked Watkins. But I think we got McVay’s guy. I read somewhere that the Rams tried to get him last year. If this is the type of player the coach wanted then obviously he has a plan. Only time will tell. I think in the long term we will be better off. JMO

cooks is a better player than watkins and he's locked up

sure, go and fall in love with his "measurables" and draft slot. he hasn't produced like cooks at this level.

Been skeptical of Wadkins since he dropped the ball for a touchback before crossing the goal line hot dogging as a Bill.
Cooks is coming from a solid, well coached organization and should be a huge asset to the Rams because of it.

The Rams will miss Watkins in the red zone.

His production in the red zone AKA the 1 yard slant pattern will be replaced by the development of the tight ends and a more effective short yardage ground game.

I don’t disagree.
But I think the growth of all the young players together on O will definitely overcome that.

Cooks will be fine. I'm sure he will do his best blocking but with scheme McVay can have Cooks pull his guy completely out of the area
and not even have to block him. Cooks running by you over the middle will get your undivided attention.

Don't agree with you. McVay likes tight sets, at least last year. Cooks won't convert on 3rd down or be a factor in the red zone, or on screens.

Of course he’ll be used on screens, 3rd & in end zone.
