I'm both excited and scared at the same time about our linebacking situation....the rookies are probably the future...hope Longacre can stay healthy and Ebu can step up

I'm thinking since Quinn and Ogletree were let go prior to the draft the RAMS have some confidence in the guys they kept.

One thing is for sure.....our LB's are all bigger than I thought....Ebu is 6'3' 245#, Longacre 6'4" 270#, Littleton 6' 3" 230#, and Lawler is 6'4" 265#.....Barron is the shrimp at 6'2" 220#...hits like a truck tho.

littleton and ebukam will be our starters unless we get lucky and find a diamoind in the rough {0b0?} ... and those 2 are UPGRADES over what we fielded last year...

Run defense will be better with the current group. Coverage and rushing the passer are the questions.

How long has it been since we had a dominating LB crew?

The problem with Quinn and Ogletree is they would get washed out - especially on running plays. I expect our run defense to be much more stout this year. We may have some growing pains at LB but as the season progresses I expect them to as well...

I see a top 5 D...

Judge our new coach in his third year. After all our last coach was to game strategy what Yoko Ono was to the Beatles...

Forever?

I mean, we've had a few good ones, and one or two that had a great player on it.

But we've never had a great unit at one time.

I'd hazard a guess that the best one was in the mid-70s, with Isiah Robertson, Hacksaw Reynolds, and Jim Youngblood all there at the same time.

Mike Wilcher, Jim Collins, Carl Eckern and Kevin Greene.

Ironic that you missed this group.

I have full confidence in Wades ability to make the linebacking corps successful this year

That group only played together in 1985 and Mel Owens started rather than Kevin Greene. Owens had something like 9 sacks that year and Wilcher had by far his best season as a Ram. I think he had like 13 sacks that year. Mike Wilcher wasnt a bad LB in any season he played. He just didnt play with the aggression that matched his ability. If he had then we are quite possibly referring to WIlcher in the same breathe as Greene, Derrick Thomas. But you're right Dick, the Rams have NEVER had a more complete LB group than this group including the young Kevin Greene as depth. Outside of London Fletcher, I would say that Jim Collins was the most underrated LB the Rams have ever had. Eckern was just steady every season. The same guy.

Mel Owens was a first round draft pick and very good LB. He was a modern day LB and could have played in this generation.
