This off-season is baffling me to no end.

We need Justin Houston strong against the run, still can get after the passer good leader and a CLEAR upgrade at OLB.

We are told before DA starts we have 35 to spend then we sign a FS for 50% less than Joyner. We lose Saffold and Sully a combined 15m more we don't replace them. We let Barron walk and the cap increased 10m how can we only have around 9m left that's impossible. All we did was pay Fowler and Peters more.

No money to sign Houston.

The 8m seems to be the correct remaining not including draft picks n PS. He isn’t signing for what we will have left after that.

I'm unclear on this. Vinny says it's what they have left to spend on FA and does not include the draft $$. Meaning they actually have that much money to spend on the roster. Even after FA tenders including guys like Jojo Natson.

Okay, okay, okay.... I'll stop being a dick.

I also heard about restructuring Donald and Whit's contract giving us an additional 15m.

You heard about them doing it? Or read the article that suggested it is possible?

Because those are different things.

They have been creative before, they could restructure, but will that put them in worse shape in 2-3 years?

I don't understand why are we in cap hell all of a sudden with a qb on a rookie contract. What happens when they pay Goff?

The Rams have paid big contracts the last couple season's. We do have a DL making 20 something per year. Cooks is getting paid, Gurley, and a few others.

I'm not sure about next years cap situation. Whitworth, Talib, Peters, Brockers come off the cap. That'll be a decent amount for sure. I'm guessing the Rams will be in relatively good cap situation next off-season.

Obviously when Goff signs his extension. Snead and Co will have to be that much more creative.

Also...would have loved if the Rams found a way to bring in Houston. Really curious to see what type of deal he gets

Well.. they have a number of contracts that come off the books next year.
Whitworth, Brockers, Talib, Fowler's on a one year deal.. Peters is on his last year.. Weddle's deal is an easy out after one, if needed.

Rams have to draft well this year. Could be Weddle is the only real free agent they sign who will be starting. Can't pay everybody. Rams may have overpaid for Cooks and Gurley.

I get rid of Brockers (try to trade him) and replace him with Houston. Brockers does hardly anything last year compared to Suh, Donald and even Fowler.

how about cutting 5 or 6 scrubbs to bring in Houston.........??? then bring in a bunch of Undrafted Rookies and fill the Scubb spots with them on minimum contracts........!!! we had some guys last year who probably barely hit the field....... just saying if we want a pretty good player like Houston......that's 1 way to get him.......!!! why in the world were Donald and who ever else contracts re worked before FA period......???

How much do you think these so called “scrubbs” make to equal what Houston is probably looking for?

You do realize the player needs to be willing to restructure their contract? Also if such did happen you realize you are just making the cap hit worst down the road. You are simply “kicking the can”..................

Rams are mostly done in free agency unless they decide to restructure some contracts or release Brockers before they pay him his 3 mil roster bonus. Anything is possible

I thought we rented Peters for 1 year? Why did we not release him and NOT get stuck with the 9MM we owe now? I don't get that move. I was 100% sure (and happy) to get rid of him at first chance. Does anyone think he is a key piece to our defense? He was a straight up liability last year. What am I missing there?

Peters was very solid once he was put in the role he’s best at.

Now... if your plan is to dump him and draft a corner who plays more like Talib in first round, I’d get it. But you’d basically have to do that if you let Peters go.

I would be lookin at FA/draft yes. I def disagree with your "solid" comment. I thought he was a disaster and never really tried to make a tackle. He made a few plays in post season, but that's what he was supposed to do. At that point it was so bad that it was like watching Rudy make a play - its great because we all know he sucks. Good for him. I know this sounds harsh, but I really was lookin forward to dumping him. I hope I eat my words.

I think Peters will be better in coverage this season. Tackling is another matter. KC fans pretty much complained about his lack of effort when tackling so that's not likely to change. He's a good piece on 3rd down when you need a stop, but if the other team gets a lead and starts rolling with their running game then not so much.
