John Johnson on Weddle’s game, personality fitting in with the Rams: “He can do it all.”

Minutes after head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead introduced safety Eric Weddle to the Los Angeles media, the pair left the media room at the Rams practice facility in Thousand Oaks, Calif. as their rising third-year safety entered.

“We had been texting, we talked a lot, just getting to know him a little bit,” safety John Johnson told reporters after sharing a fairly staged handshake with Weddle in front of the podium backdrop, providing the opportunity for cameras to capture the moment.

Eric Weddle says Sean McVay is the 'complete opposite' of most guys

Weddle has talked about what an easy decision it was to join the Rams, and how he felt like they were a perfect fit. Paired with John Johnson III, they form one of the best safety duos in the league. But in addition to the on-field fit and the family aspect (Weddle’s family lives in Southern California), there’s one more big reason Weddle got on board with the Rams.

He was enamored by coach Sean McVay. Weddle sat down for an interview with Jim Rome of CBS Sports, and gushed about his new coach.

“I was super impressed with the guy – the guy behind the interviews and the TV – of how confident he is, how he demands the respect, but how he’s still humble and his humility shows within a conversation,” Weddle said. “Most guys are ego, prideful individuals. He’s the complete opposite and I admired that about him.”
