It remains to be seen if the Rams keep him.

He never denied the charges. He just said he was not in a state of mind, because of medications, to be consciously deliberate about his actions. The law in question turns on intent (cause you don't charge someone with misdemeanor sexual battery if they brush up against somebody accidently in a grocery line.) Intent is a big deal here--his defense, to get reasonable doubt in people's minds, was that he was in no condition to "intend" his actions.

So he never said he didn't do it.

Is there a weird gray area there? Or will the Rams accept that claim and bring him back?

If they don't I completely trust them to hire someone as good.

....

Remember, part of that job also involves keeping McVay from spazzing out too much on the edge of the sideline. Rath was particularly good at that, and his absence was felt at the Superbowl.

The question I have, why didn't the wife scream if knowing that other guest were in the house... including her husband to get him out of there?

Hopefully, he lays off the alcohol.... So he doesn't get into that situation again....

What she did do got him to stop. Some people are not equipped for a crisis. I know what you mean...my wife taught my daughters that if they ever feel threatened to scream, fight, make a big fuss, never be passive. Actually I was once involved in a situation where someone assaulted a neighbor woman in the parking lot behind our apartment building. She screamed "rape! rape!" and I just went tear-assing out the apartment and into the parking lot--it worked, the guy fled. I can tell ya, if you hear that, you act. That's what we taught our daughters.

But not everyone knows what to do. Either way Rath stopped when she did what she did do (she pretended she was still half asleep and thought it was her husband).

Again though he never denied doing it. Just that he was too messed up to have a willful intent.

Rams assistant found not guilty of sexual battery

A jury on Friday found Los Angeles Rams strength and conditioning coach Ted Rath not guilty on three counts of misdemeanor sexual battery, according to Ventura County Superior Court records.

Rath, 35, was arrested Jan. 15 on suspicion of sexual battery, stemming from an alleged incident with a woman he knew in Moorpark, California, about 10 miles from the team's practice headquarters, on June 15, 2018.

According to a news release from the district attorney's office, the charges alleged that Rath "touched an adult woman against her will on intimate parts of her body for the purpose of sexual arousal and gratification."

Following his arrest in January, the Rams placed Rath on a leave of absence, and he did not attend the NFC Championship Game at the New Orleans Saints or Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta. Rath remained on leave throughout the offseason program.

The trial spanned six days and included testimony from Rath, the woman and former Rams defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, according to court records. The jury submitted its verdict after about an hour of deliberation.

"We are aware of today's verdict," the Rams said in a statement. "Now that this trial is complete, we will revisit Ted Rath's status. In addition, we will continue to assist the NFL as it completes its separate investigation."

Rath could face potential discipline from the league.

"We've been monitoring developments in the matter which is being reviewed," the NFL said in a statement.

If reinstated, Rath will enter his third season as the strength and conditioning coach for the team.

Rookies are scheduled to report to Rams training camp on July 24. Veterans will report July 26, and practice is set to begin July 27.
