First in 1973 they dealt a 33-year old Roman Gabriel to the Philadelphia Eagles for Emerging Star WR Harold Jackson, Tony Baker, TWO 1st Round Picks AND a 3rd.
Great Trade

Then in 1974 they dealt a 34-year old John Hadl to the Green Bay Packers for TWO 1st Round Picks, TWO 2nd Round Picks AND a 3rd Round pick for good measure.
Awesome Trade

These trades formed the basis of the Rams great era from 73-80.

If I recall correctly Gabriel forced the trade. Hadl was acquired to be a backup but Gabriel was insecure. It worked out great for the Rams. I still believe to this day if the two Ram safeties (Preece & Elmendorf?) hadn't collided going for the INT against Dallas in the playoffs, that the Rams would've won their first SB in '73. That Dolphin team was better than the undefeated version and I believe the Rams would've taken them.
