Yay or Nay?

Elon Musk: There is a pretty good chance we end up with a universal basic income, or something like that, due to automation.

Burger flippers, truck drivers, and cashiers are going to be out of work in the coming decades, thanks to the accelerating pace of robotics and automation technology, some experts warn.

And as large swaths of the population lose their jobs, the only viable solution might be for the government to institute a universal basic income, which would mean paying every resident a fixed amount of money to cover their needs.

Har, wow. You?

Life for centuries has done just fine w capitalism.

For centuries old jobs disappeared. It’s part of life in a world of constant change. I mean what did the employees do at the buggie whip company when cars were invented? They learned how to go work on an assembly line. Today, truck drivers can learn to code or drive for Amazon. No? If people can make a living w basic income, what gives people the incentive to create? Build? Invent? Come on. You can’t be serious with this my man.

You must adapt. Or die. It’s that simple.

We already see what is happening to a world where untold millions live with no direction or imperative in their lives and it's not pretty. Universal basic income will consign still millions more to useless, worthless lives. Dependent entirely on the government and their elite masters for whatever scraps are tossed down to them. Powerless to resist against any abuse given to them. Total submission.

This was someone’s opinion, not mine…..I should have made that clear.

I’ve actually worked at least 40 hours a week (many times more, especially in my 20s and 30s) through my entire career. My Dad definitely instilled me with a strong work ethic.

I have zero sympathy for people that try and live off the government and avoid working full time. I know people doing this right now and it drives me crazy.

Same here. Since I was 8 years old and able to do yard work, my father said I could buy whatever I wanted when I made my own money (we didn’t have a lot of money growing up). My first tax paying job was a dishwasher and busboy at Marie Calendars at age 14. Hard freaking job (old people are messy eaters. Lol).

I also remember when I was about 10 years old, I really wanted this brand new Redline bike. Was $378. I only had $250. So my dad said, I’ll loan you the rest at 10% (a month, not annual). So from that day on, anytime I needed money, my dad would loan me money at 10%. This was huge because he taught me at a young age that although borrowing is necessary in life, it’s not the best route all the time. There is debt, then there is crap debt. I learned to just hate crap debt. Guess that’s why to this day, I still buy everything in cash on items that depreciate. I’m a loan officers nightmare. Lol.

America pretty much invented the new world. Model T, Planes, Electricity, Telephone, Computer… and I can go on and on and on. Why did this all happen? Because this is what happens when you give people freedom of choice. No gov handouts. Low interest rates. Basically, the Gov just needs to move out of the way. It’s that simple to me.

Give a man a fish, he can eat for a day. Teach him how to fish…. You know the rest. America is great at helping set up success. Then it just needs to stay out of the way, and NOT overtax. United States is still considered a young country, especially compared to Europe and thousands of years of development. So isn’t it glorious that we are just under 300 years old and yet we are one of the most powerful Countries on the face of the planet.

God, I love this Country. 🇺🇸 This is exactly why Socialism and these kids these days scare me for our future. AOC and that group should be removed from politics all together. They are not America.

Isn't it amazing that AOC graduated with an economics degree from a "prestigious university? And so called top economists are now saying that we need a basic living wage and a $26.00/hr minimum wage is necessary for people to live. The complete crap coming out of our educational industrial complex is mind boggling.

################$################

Really? Because that's exactly what politicians do.
Live off your money. They even tell you it's a law that you're supposed to give it to them because they said so.

You're simply falling into the trap of class system warfare.
Working dies nothing but tire you out and make you unhealthy and poor from stress and taxes.
I'm a better slave than that slave who does nothing....lol.
