McVay’s Sideline shirt
I am looking for the Shirt that Coach McVay wore yesterday. It was black with LA circled with JUSTICE, OPPORTUNITY, EQUALITY , and FREEDOM. I love how our Beloved Rams Franchise takes a stand with Class and in a none distracting way. The balance is amazing. If anyone sees them. Please let me know.

It's like they keep poking into it, and it's lame imo. I mean, what does Justice even mean? To some its one way and to others it's another. My point being, sports is the one last area where we can ALL come together and cheer on our teams.
I mean look, I maybe be ultra conservative, but I don't want to see republican stances on jerseys and coaches, sideline grounds or around the goal post, or back of helmets... it just doesn't stop. I just am trying to say, I wished they just focused on what they actually do... which is sports.
Look at ESPN or the NBA or even Disney and many other corporations... they went overkill and so far, Disney has produced its smallest profits in 40 years (Stock had been cut in half in one year), the NBA is hovering around their worst ratings ever and ESPN lost almost half its viewers until they woke up and just got back to sports.
Just an honest conversation my man. That is all. YOU know I have nothing but respect for you bud, so PLEASE do not take this personally or as confirmational. You are my friend

Re: McVay’s Sideline shirt
This is 100% spot on. It turned me off because I am watching sports somewhat to escape that stuff. It needs to come off the helmets, the goal line, the commercials, everywhere and just play football. The only thing on the helmets that I see as being okay is the quote, It takes all of us. That one seems less political, and a nice PSA. I hope the NFL gets smarter before they lose even more fans.

I understand what you are saying but I think that’s kind of the point. Turning it off isn’t a option. Part of our problem as a society has been ignoring what doesn’t fit in our world.DelMar wrote: ↑December 26th, 2022, 9:14 amHey Woody... This month I’ve had two very eye opening experiences. I have been placed in the south west to help out with the border issue. As a mid west guy I knew of it but to be here on the line, and see first hand I’ve changed my thoughts on the matter. I also had one of my children come out as Gay. My love for my child forced me to see things differently.
We can no longer afford to think taking a break from reality is a option. I’ve shared my story multiple times. So I won’t bore anyone with it again. However OUR sport AMERICAN football is the most diverse team sport on earth. Men from Affluent backgrounds, rural, and ghetto areas, middle class suburbs, and even foreign countries. Come together, and live together to be a team. And it works, we are brothers. Football is the #1 sport in the US and the most diverse. Perfect place in my humble opinion to show unity and understanding. We can break generational stereotypes and misunderstandings.
If I can’t be vulnerable enough to share my story with the men I go to battle with where else can I be. And if I’m not there to listen to my brother what kind of team mate am I. These men are leaders. It doesn’t even have to be race related. It can be about a ex wife taking a guys kids away and taking him to the cleaners in the process.

I say keep it going tbh. We can't simply ignore what happens in the real world. You gotta bring light to this. We can't just say "shut up and play ball", because that'll be ignorant.

I think all decent people want justice, equally, opportunity and respect for ALL people. The only issue I have with this is when it is used to divide us. Those values are not political… they are basic human rights endowed by our creator…. However you may define our creator.
Wearing a shirt serves as a reminder… I am OK with it and I personally don’t see it as political… I won’t let it be political… not in my simple mind

Re: McVay’s Sideline shirt
Actually, the Rams' franchise has a history of standing for social justice, going way back to 1946 when it initiated racial reintegration of the NFL with the signing of Kenny Washington. There predictably was considerable 'pushback' against that, notably from the South and Midwest, however there was no backing down on that issue by the Good Guys.STL Woody wrote: ↑December 26th, 2022, 7:01 am

Some people were more comfortable when corporate America merely chased profits without caring about those basic concepts that our country was founded upon, which certainly aren't politically partisan or ideological.
Awesomely terrific shirt, I agree...

Re: McVay’s Sideline shirt
Excellent point. Love is Love. We all have to work to make sure manipulative people don’t use emotions to divide us. Rams fans are the best example. LA to STL back to LA can’t divide us. Broken horns and messing up the best unis in Pro football can’t divide us, J Wolf not starting can’t divide us, a super soft D ram by Morris can’t divide us, Akers rollercoaster can’t divide us, this horrible disappointment of a season can’t divide us, Demoff can’t divide us, no first round picks can’t divide us, skinny VS thick horns can’t divide us, Woods being gone can’t divide us, Jeff Fish couldn’t divide us.UplandRam wrote: ↑December 26th, 2022, 9:30 pm I think all decent people want justice, equally, opportunity and respect for ALL people. I totally respect your position here my friend... and I see your point. I do not really disagree to a point... but for me, I just want sports to be about sports. We as a society already get enough of this other stuff from everywhere else imo.STL Woody wrote: ↑December 26th, 2022, 6:53 pmI understand what you are saying but I think that’s kind of the point. It's not an ignoring thing one bit for me either. It's jsut a sit down and veg for a couples hours a week and watch my team play some ball. It's also NOT taking a break from reality. Not one bit for me.
To me, there is just a time and place for everything. That is all I am saying.
I mean think about it, what if these things read 'Abortion kills babies' or 'Marriage is between one man and one woman'.
Now, I know these statements are different, but the point is, they are social issues and different beliefs, and also political.
So again, I get it. But when I sit down and watch sports, that's all I want to see.
You are a good man, I have always respected you and your post. Hope it was a good Christmas and GO RAMS in 2023!

I'd rather read something like, "Be a Father to your Children" directed to a ALL races of men then the hollow words the virtue signalers want to blast us with.
Or they could have added "Responsibility and "Accountability" to their original buzzwords but that ain't gonna happen...lol

This thread is in the wrong folder.
It seems an end around the rules to the get it seen by more people.
This was never going to be about football, almost immediately. That's exactly what happened.

Ummmm, the country referred to in the "National" Football League is the United States of America, I believe.D-GenerationX wrote: ↑December 27th, 2022, 1:05 pm This thread is in the wrong folder.

Support for those basic values shown on the shirt--JUSTICE, OPPORTUNITY, EQUALITY & FREEDOM--is an overall American concept, not a partisan political or ideological one.
Our team's head coach was wearing such a shirt during his postgame press conference, presumably at the league's suggestion and/or even instigation. Yes, the NFL's public commitment to basic social justice is a football-related issue...

Re: McVay’s Sideline shirt
If any of you have watched "The Crown," there is an oft-repeated refrain that the Queen must remain neutral. It is not the easiest thing to do. People have opinions and feelings. Nevertheless, by taking a political stance, the Queen is automatically demeaning half the population. As a symbol of national unity, she cannot do so.
I guess the question boils down to "Does politics have a place in entertainment?" Some believe politics should be pushed everywhere, even family holidays. Many, however, believe neither religion nor politics should be discussed over the dinner table because it is universally acknowledged that both are inherently and extremely divisive. I believe it polite to leave politics out of family dinners, just as I believe it business savvy to leave politics out of entertainment.
IMHO, it is an unwritten gentleman's rule that politics should be left out of sports. If we go down that route, why are there no NFL shirts condemning the treatment of the Uyghurs (modern day slaves)? Paging Lebron.....

Re: McVay’s Sideline shirt
But this isn't partisan politics or ideology, it's simply Americanism.
If you want Americanism left out of athletics in the United States of America, that would include not playing the national anthem before games.
Of course, individual athletes have a constitutional right to hold partisan and/or ideological views and to express them.
Thinking of this situation, I do recall ESPN once coming up with the ridiculous concept of hiring Rush Limbaugh to be an NFL 'talking head,' only to have him promptly make a racist comment disparaging Donovan McNabb on a telecast.
"Rush guaranteed us that he wouldn't be commenting on any social issues."
Right, and that scorpion guaranteed the frog that it wouldn't attack him...
