Poor Sportsmanship by the Whiners?

Post by Ants »

Not sure you guys will agree with this (without being biased against the 49ers - lol), but I thought the 49ers displayed poor sportsmanship late in the game yesterday. I'm not talking about the brawl.

I'm talking about the fact that, down by 4 scores with about 4 and a half minutes left, WITHOUT a QB --- they were STILL running gimmick plays, prolonging a game that was long over.
Couldn't they just show some class and run out the clock, save their players and fans the misery, and not act like children by throwing tantrums?

Some might say, "the game isn't over until it's over"... I get that. "Anything can happen".
I don't know...unless a meteor wipes out the Eagles team, I don't think this was a situation that the Whiners could remotely dream that they would somehow pull this one out.

Whatcha got?

Fred Warner's Helmet-to-Helmet hit on Matthew Stafford in last year's Championship Game was the dirtiest and most distasteful thing I've ever seen on a football field. I wish nothing but the worst for this Organization that condones and teaches dirty play. Greenlaw is a filthy bastard too, as is Jimmie Ward of course.

I remember that play; and lost all respect for Warner after that. You can also add Hufanga(sp) to that list.

You can't just give up and lay down even if you know it's unlikely...gotta play hard for your fans til the end. It was great to see their season spoiled. They are missing the most important position, and that's about it.

They were super undisciplined yesterday, most of the game.

Agreed... after Purdy went down and Johnson was showing that he couldnt move the offense after a couple of series... The 49ers unraveled. I saw unfocused desperation on the 49er defenses part. What I want to know was how the coaching staff wasnt able to contain that and get the focus where it always was in the past??? Demeco looks like a really good DC. But that right there shows me that he might not be ready for a HC gig.

All the punching, late hits, helmet shots and then the Trent Williams rag dolling of a little guy. Just a spectical of bad behavior. As if they were annointed.
They weren't getting all the the calls going their way either. Shanahan went balistic a couple times. Roughing the kicker penalty I'm surprized he didn't get T'd up.

It was getting chippy on both sides the entire 2nd half. bad calls in every game. look at the Cincy/KC game some of those calls were brutal

Warner is a great player but he’s always throwing an extra shot after the whistle. Greenlaw is pretty chippy as well. I’ll give them credit for the talent they have but they will always be considered classless in my book. The Stafford hit was one of many unnecessary shots that Warner has taken. Niners want to intimidate you and be the bully on the block but yesterday the bully got beat up. I thought Philly was playing ultra conservative in the first half running the ball at least 75% of the time but they stayed with the run and wore that defense down. Bosa is a great player but he’s not nearly as effective when he’s trying to defend the run as opposed to rushing the passer. McVay could learn a lot about how to beat a division foe that has given you trouble in the past. Rams need to upgrade their offensive line and be more patient with their run game. Philly has a great offensive line so it’s not easy to replicate but that just might be the blueprint of how to beat the Niners. Run the ball down their throats. Niners got especially chippy and lost control late because their vaunted defense got their ass handed to them yesterday.

Definitely a great player. He didn’t have his best game yesterday. He seems to excel in coverage and especially when he blitzes. The Eagles seemed to confuse him with a lot of misdirection yesterday and he was a step late on a few of the rushing touchdowns. He suffered a stinger type injury to his shoulder on the second play of the game but was back in there right away. The injury might have hampered him throughout the game as he wasn’t as big of a factor as he usually is.

Good player. I doubt Ray Lewis or Lawrence Taylor ever had to resort to HEAD BUTTING the opposing Quarterback after an Interception, and after the play ended no less. As I said, filthiest thing I've ever seen, hope he tears his ACL walking on the sidewalk this offseason.

You may want to go back and look at some of the highlights of LT. Best player I have ever seen but the dude was a complete maniac as well. Played multiple games high of coke. It's a violent game. 1 play doesn't represent his career.

Great player but I agree. He’s better than that and I have seen it too many times with Warner. He has some issues even with his own team during training camp as he started a couple of fights by hitting people when they were supposed to be non contact. He got into a fight after hitting Aiyuk in non contact drills. I respect his talent and acknowledge that but don’t have any respect for his tactics. He’s done it too many times for it to be a coincidence.

LT never dirty like this guy. Didnt need to be. The Niners NEEDED to knock Stafford out of that game to have a chance, and that's what this dirty player tried to do.

'The Refs Totally Cost Us The Game
Sports · Jan 30, 2023 · BabylonBee.com
"We can't beat the other team and the refs," said backup 49ers quarterback Josh Johnson, who struggled to complete barely more than half of his pass attempts in the game. "When the game is taken out of our hands like that, it doesn't matter how flawlessly we play."

The 49ers, overwhelmed by injuries to key players and poor execution on both sides of the ball, were confident that the game would have turned out differently had the officials not been diehard Eagles fans. "We were the better team today," said star receiver Deebo Samuel, who had one of San Francisco's three game-crushing turnovers. "Unfortunately, the better team doesn't always win in the end…or even play well…or, you know, score more than one touchdown. Those dang refs, though."

I agree. IMO Shanahan is to blame for not challenging that call on the Smith catch. It was a bang bang play. I thought he caught it as well but after the replay he obviously did not. BUT this game was over the minute Purdy got hurt

Wish I could have seen all their flat-billed cap, gold chain wearing fans cry as the flags escorted the Eagles down the field. Who are the tough guys now? Serves you right D-Bags. Even the way they walk out of the tunnel with their big stereo, dancing around like they at the club. Just so satisfying to see them destroyed.
