How did Cam Akers become the man after being the joke?
Lets look at the first start after his Achillis injury, September 8th against the Bills he has 12 offensive plays and 3 carries for ZERO yards. The next 6 games he had averaged 2.9 YPC and ended up on McCvays Sh1t list during that time. Trade options came and went and Cam clearly wanted to just play football and at a high level! He was used sparingly the next few games and was around 40-70 YPG. Then he met with McCvay and cleared the air. the last 5 games of the year Cam went off, he also did this with a makeshift O-line. He busted out for 410 yards and a 5,5 YPC and 3 of his 7 Tuddies. Mind you a make shift offensive line. Being only 24 years old and fresh legs being he has split carries with Henderson and Brown or whatever Rc's they threw in. I believe he is the back for the next 4-5 years with his usage. Tell me your thoughts?

Not sure about Akers to be honest. He seems like a wildcard to me. He showed enough to end the year to have hopes he can be a quality starter.

I think it is the obvious. Over coming an achilles tendon repair. Achilles rupture is a devastating injury that most don't know about. It is not so much the tendon repair as it is the muscle loss in the calf. You are in a cast post surgery for three months and then booted for an additional couple of months resulting in muscle wasting. I think as Cam gained more playing time he gained confidence in making explosive moves without worrying about re-injury.

Maybe he was still recovering from the injury early on. And also he could be the type of player that gets better the more carries he gets.
Some players are not built for the up and down in and out of the lineups. Some guys like to grind it out and get the feel of the game. I really hope he comes out on fire this year. With some more help on the offensive line and a healthy Stafford to start the season, who knows what can happen.

I blame the coaching staff. They abused Hendo and Akers by not assigning them clear support and specific roles. One week Akers would start and Hendo was benched. The next week Hendo would start and Akers was trade bait. Throw in some time for Rivers and others and you have complete chaos in the RB room. Hendo and Akers had complimentary skill sets and that duo should have shined. I'm glad the RB coach is gone. Throw to the backs and give them roles to play. McVay failed the RBs big time

I think they rushed him back too soon. this is a devastating injury that takes at least 12-16 months to heal. Plus you add the fact like some of you are saying re: McVay. Perfect storm. Hope he comes back with a chip on his shoulder and I believe it is a contract year for him right? If so he will play hard

He's not the back for the next 4-5 years. I'm not sure he will be the back for this year. Would not be at all surprised to see us take a RB at #36 or sign a FA, and Williams has had his McVay "redshirt" year so he will also be in the mix. Akers probably opens the season as the starter and if he can put together a whole season like he did the last few games of 2022, he moves on after 2023 for more money than the Rams will be willing or able to pay.jwing81 wrote: ↑February 17th, 2023, 6:34 pm Lets look at the first start after his Achillis injury, September 8th against the Bills he has 12 offensive plays and 3 carries for ZERO yards. Needed more time to heal. As some have said, he came back too soon. Cam finished the season strong and healthy. Looking forward to seeing Cam next season.

Like numerous NFL players, past and present, the guy appears to be highly inconsistent.
I'm afraid that I'll always recall his "You Had Only One Job" victory-jeopardizing fumble in our team's close divisional-round matchup vs. the Buccaneers.
So I suppose we'll find out what his Rams' future holds soon enough...

Re: How did Cam Akers become the man after being the joke?
He was clearly the best back on the team. Then he got injured. On opening day this year, he was supposedly ready to go and was number one on the depth chart. Except when the game started, he was now a backup. When he finally did get a chance to play, he was once again the best back on the team. So is this on him for being inconsistent? or the coaching staff for giving up on him?

He's a solid RB. He would have a great season behind the Eagles OL. Just needs blockers, and they improved the last few games oddly enough. Splitting time with KW a bit next year will be fine for that position. Just gotta improve that OL
. hopefully.
