Rams mock by Athletic

Post by Cornell29 »

Many wont be happy, bc of the 2nd round pick. With that said, I agree with the Athletic the need is there. If the rams do go with the TE in 2nd round approach, they need to move Higbee and use those cap savings along with any dollar they can scratch up and bring 2 good starting OL vet players.

Round 2, pick No. 36: Luke Musgrave TE

Round 3, pick No. 69: Derick Hall, edge, Auburn (6-3, 252)

Round 4, pick No. 136: Jake Haener, QB, Fresno State (6-0, 209)

Round 5, pick No. 172: Julius Brents, CB, Kansas State (6-4, 204)

Round 6, pick No. 182: Carter Warren, T, Pittsburgh (6-5, 320)

Round 6, pick No. 191: Aubrey Miller Jr., ILB, Jackson State (6-2, 225)

Round 6, pick No. 211, Cameron Young, DL, Mississippi State (6-3, 310)

Round 7, pick No. 225: Kendall Smith, S, Illinois (6-1, 200)

Round 7, pick No. 252: Leonard Taylor, TE, Cincinnati (6-5, 248)

Although I'd be hoping for an impact center or pass rusher, I would not be upset with the pick of Musgrave if Higbee was cut and they were able to add some OL in free agency. I think Musgrave could be a lethal pass catcher in the NFL.

Two TE's, but no OL until the 6th. That sounds about like the Rams. I really don't want Higbee going anywhere. He has his issues, but w/out him there is absolutely no proven TE on the roster, plus he's like the 20th highest paid TE at this point. His contract is really not out of line with his value, and signing any decent veteran to replace him would take up most of any cap savings we would get. I've always been surprised that the Rams haven't drafted a QB at any point since McVay has been there. I don't know if this is the year, but they need to at some point.

Hate this mock. Big time reach picking Luke Musgrave, the guy has had only 13 starts, a poor blocker and projected *maybe* as a late second rounder. Other, better TE's are available.

The only way the mock makes sense to me is if the rams sign a couple of starting ol during the offseason. If the rams don't sign a vet OL or two and then don't draft one until the 3rd day, I will be very upset.

another example of why I think the Athletic sucks. this draft is horrible. Jack Haener stands 5'10...now way in hell do we draft another Wolfie

They compare him to Purdy. Share alot of the same qualities, smarts, awareness, arm and mobility and size. Purdy measured 6 foot at the combine

I know him well followed him in college and while he is good but there is no way in hell he stands 6'0

Short QB, TE with our 1st pick? I get it's a need- especially if Higbee is gone. But why are we losing games? Even if we got 2 stud FA OL, we still need edge over TE. And I would still add stud OL over TE in that spot. This is MOCKERY of a mock. Gimmie a break. We all know why we sucked last year.

They have Rams getting a edge in Derick Hall. I don't know alot about him other then he is a athletically gifted, one of the best draft pure edge rusher. Some have projected going as early as late 1st. With that said, if he has a great combine, I doubt he will be there in the 3rd round

Wouldn't surprise me. College frequently lists guy taller then they actually are. Combine will fix that. I dislike the idea of taking a 6 foot qb higher then the 6th round. Niners didn't take Purdy until the 7th and lucked up. If the niners knew Purdy would be good they would have selected him higher then the last overall pick in the draft.

I hope this is not how it ends up, haha.

If I were the Rams, I would seriously consider trading #36 for two later picks. Broncos #67 and #68 or Seattle's #52 and #83, maybe? The extra, cheap player in this draft range could really help the team, IMO.

I would take a long look at Joe Tippman, who is a tall center, but played well this past year in Wisconsin. If he does't work out as a center, he could potentially be a good guard too. Mentioned as an athletic freak. According to current mock drafts, he would be available as early as the 3rd or 4th round, possibly later, but I wonder if his stock goes up between now and the draft.

For a backup QB, Jaren Hall will probably go mid to late rounds and his comparison has often been a poor man's Russel Wilson (the younger, better version).

Depending on who is on the board and what the rams are offered, I wouldn't mind reading back. With that said, trading back and getting picks sounds good, but sometimes it back fires.

For example not drafting Wagner. Wanted Wagner, thought he would be there at 50. Swapped picks with the Bears and moved from 45 to 50. Wagner gets selected at 47 by Seattle and Rams get JJ.

saw this, spot on mock, not because its great but it is probably just what the Rams will do, disregard the OL till the 6th round and pick a 2nd TE and give him 15 targets

Cornell... I still can't believe you posted this (not a personal attack, but you have to know this mock is awful).

no OL till the 6th is bananas. So if this mock is correct, good bye to Creed #2 I guess

Thank goodness we all know how much stake to put in ANY mock drafts. Makes fun discussion though.

What's your take on Young? Wow I didn't expect him to be 5'10 and a half. If you are a GM needing a qb , how far do you move him down, or do you move him down at all. This is tough.

What's you're take on Young. If you are a team that needs a qb, do you still take him? Do you drop him down you're board? How far?

I personally think Bryce Young is the most overrated QB this year.

Just watch, he'll be Fields back up forever.

he has exceled at every level. He is small that is my one big worry but the knock on Fields has always been his accuracy. Young is very impressive with accuracy.

Fields was not accurate in college, Lance played DII and only 1 year. Leaf was a mental midget. I could be wrong as well but this dude can flat out play it's his size that has everyone concerned.

Higbee is very serviceable. Forget the TE and get after OL help. I can’t believe that is even a question.

Reminds me of the huge size ordeal with Doug Flutie. Flutie could ball out though. Just ask Rob johnson.
