Beginning of the tank for Caleb Williams has begun

Post by SoCalRam78 »

Releasing Wagner is not something you do if you want to win. Cap space savings isn’t much. Trade Ramsey as well and might as well tank. Rams are going to fill those vacancies with low round picks and cheap free agents? Sure. I bet these guys will come up with convenient injuries next year.

don't forget about the guy from UNC, forget his name. But he is projected to be a stud too. Maybe management realizes they are a long way away from winning.

Yes. The epitome of lightning in a bottle. Not sure why they gave stafford the deal. Likely a parting thank you gift with that accelerated bonus. Same with Donald. I bet both won’t be here in 2024.

Yes. This team is going to suck for awhile. At best they’re .500 next year. The best thing they can do is get a stud modern QB. At least they have their picks moving forward.

If they decide to tank, they owe to do guys like Donald, Kupp, Staff and JR to send them out and collect picks or whatever junk they want back to go 0-17 and win the CW sweeps.

Hopefully, when they build it all back, the new HC and GM will avoid
building a similar house of cards

I don't think anyone is going to trade for Stafford but I do think it's a foregone conclusion that JR, Floyd will not be on this team come spring.

I won't watch if they purposely lose then. Have no interest in it.

Hogwash!

I trust Rams have a plan, lets wait for next several moves before we declare Rams are tanking for a Draft pick. Too many good players for that.

I'm hoping they have a master plan, until we see they don't !

ROLL RAMS !! 8-)

No way this team is tanking. McVay would never have agreed to come back for that.

Agree, sounds like nonsense, since when do the Rams put a lot if stock into a 1st rd draft pick.

The odds in getting Caleb Williams is almost zero imo. I am the biggest supporter of him I believe he is the best QB coming out since Andrew Luck 10+ years ago. And better than Luck.

There will be a bunch of sucky teams next year AZ, Tenn, NO, Houston possibly Chicago. The Rams would need a season similar to what we had but actually worse and unless we send AD, Ramsey, Floyd etc. packing there is no way we will be the #1 pick. And the team that comes in last will take Caleb for sure unless they have a bonafide QB or they will auction him off for some super exorbitant amount.

100% right, but without getting rid of everyone of those players we will not tank enough.

Honestly I love Caleb Williams but it is a disservice to all these stars to not try our damnedest to win. We have a very winnable division this upcoming season. If Geno goes Seattle will not be as good. AZ has a first time GM, HC, OC and DC they will suck. SF is in QB flux but I assume they will win a bunch of games. If healthy we are as good as SF with a couple FAs and upgrades on OL, OLB, BU QB -5 - 6 players some from the draft some from FA.

FYI the next key move will tell us what the Rams will do. Also if we dump all this talent we may get CW but what will he have around him - then it is a 3 year process to get back to any semblance of success because this year if we dump all those players we will suck, if we get CW next year we will have a super young team and Caleb will take at a minimum 1 + NFL year to get his feet so it won't be to 2025 to be maybe relevant. Would McVay want to lose for 3 years especially since there was speculation that he wanted to leave this year.

This CW race to the bottom seems like fools gold for the Rams.

The only way is to negotiate this off-season with projected bad teams we feel will be bad in 2023 and acquire their 1st in 2024 for a player upping our chances to fall into the #1 pick like the deal with Washington where they had a really bad year and we ended up with the 2nd pick in the draft that year.

Never tank unless the stars are aligning. Everyone hurt with worst record late in the season and a superstar coming available the next year.

And so it may be .. but the Rams are in hunt for the future mold now, perhaps. If they trade all those players, it should bring a fair stack of picks, including multiple 1's and 2's.

If we concentrate on getting, if avail, 1 of JS or Mauch, a solid EDGE and CB in this draft (have to be a bit lucky), or maybe a DL instead of EDGE, that gets us a leg up. I still have hopes Pircher and Bruss will become something. So, while we suck this coming season away, we get valuable snaps for young un's and our draft class.

Going into that next offseason, we should have cap space and a bunch of picks, so getting CW at that point, shouldn't be as big an issue, provided we hit some gold in this draft, and our evaluation team doesn't mess the paper next. With smart drafting (and luck), as well as intelligent use of the cap space we'll have, we could be not that far removed from competing

Unfortunately I am changing my tune, yes you heard it here first. I am an optimist, but with Wagner gone I thought, ok we won the Superbowl without a top ILB and Jones got a lot of tutelage from Wagner and is going into his third season so maybe we can withstand the loss. He can take over and we don't lose much there, BUT and it's a big BUT with all this talk that Ramsey possibly on the trading blocks we are NOT going to win this season. I am not sure that means we are tanking until maybe we add Floyd to the mix of cuts/trades. I can't see the team parting with AD or Kupp I can see them parting possibly with Stafford and having a bridge QB like Mayfield or Tannehill or Mariota though. Unfortunately AD was coming back not sure he envisioned this and if I were him I would be super pissed unless we net a huge haul for Ramsey in return which solves other areas - a player in return plus a draft pick. To me Ramsey is the linchpin to our trajectory not Wagner.

Behind Ramsey is Durant and that's it. Hill and Long will be gone. We could live without Wagner we can't live without Ramsey imo. So this is the end imo. We have currently no OLB to help the secondary along with Floyd.

So I am changing my tune and saying we maybe not tanking but we are not setting up to win next season that's for sure. If they put Stafford, Floyd, AD on the block then I will be full throttle in on the premise of the thread.

Lastly I will say imo Caleb Williams is a generational talent and would completely set the Rams up for a dynasty if he doesn't get injured he is that good.

McVay didn't come back to tank people, don't be surprised if the Rams pull off some blockbuster deals and stack this team. Don't forget there are some young players on this team that's going to be really good

you mean like trade our #1's for 2024/2025?? I hope they don't because I don't think this team can rebound from this if they do.
