Rams Given a Strong Proposal on What to do With Baker Mayfield
ESPN’s Bill Barnwell on Monday, February 27 wrote how Mayfield should be given a one-year deal worth up to $4 to $5 million to play QB with…the Rams.

Re: Rams Given a Strong Proposal on What to do With Baker Mayfield
Do these people live in fantasy land or what? Sure that would be great for the Rams if we could swing it. Baker is 28 and in his prime and a mid tier starting QB earning massively more.
Does this reporter actually do his homework or are so lazy he just want clicks - sad.
Baker has said he wants to start and there are a bunch of teams that need QBs who are not going to get Lamar, Rodgers or the 4 draft picks in the first round. So the odds are way in his favor that he gets a starting job.
Let's just say he takes this stupid deal and he sits for an entire year what has he gained and what new tape does he show other teams. There is zero upside unless Stafford gets hurt.

1. Unless Ram OL improves 100% Stafford won't make it through the season and QB back up is going to see action.
2. I think of Jim Plunket who was a starter then traded, struggled, sat out a season, and then went on to be a Superbowl QB. If Baker is smart, staying with the Rams could be the best thing for his career. Delay financial gratification for a year and then take the reins in 2024. Versus playing for some basket case team and end up injured or cut in 2024.

Pass on Baker. He's not particularly good or worth the money he will garner. Some team might try him as a starter but at this point I dont know why you would unless you are completely out of options.

Solid in spots, but I agree. Not a full time starter. Good backup tho.

Possible 5th comp pick and 10+ million > Baker
Rather a cheaper option that won't risk losing out on a comp pick and a 2nd day draft pick qb.

I just read that his "team" is apparently keeping Rams apprised of his situation and there is a report he may be considering backup for the Rams

There was next to market the last time he could be had. And he didn't exactly light it up with Carolina. Or us, for that matter.
Who is giving him $10 mil and a starting gig?

Did you know Plunket is the only QB to win 2 Super Bowls and not to be in the HOF? I believe he also won a National Championship...Jacksnow wrote: ↑March 1st, 2023, 5:54 pm 1. Unless Ram OL improves 100% Stafford won't make it through the season and QB back up is going to see action.

Baker will get more than 4M a year IMO...
Judge our new coach in his third year. After all our last coach was to game strategy what Yoko Ono was to the Beatles...

Re: Rams Given a Strong Proposal on What to do With Baker Mayfield
Taking “low” money this year to back up Stafford—and surely play for an injured Stafford—would be a smart longterm move for a Mayfield. He seems to be a good fit with McVay and the receivers. If another team pays him a ton to be their starter and he’s not incredible, he’ll go down as a joke. He should reestablish himself by staying a Ram another year.

Re: Rams Given a Strong Proposal on What to do With Baker Mayfield
I think he played great in 2 games. Had a clunker too. But he is a solid back up. Borderline starter, which I think he can be. And will be for someone. Why is backing up Rams a good move? Not like we are a force to win big at this point. Betting on injury to Stafford? Ok. That's a good bet. But don't see how it helps his career. No guarantee he gets job when Stafford leaves.

Re: Rams Given a Strong Proposal on What to do With Baker Mayfield
Again the concern is that the likelihood of stafford making it through the season with a rebuilding OL is small. The back up QB is going to play. Currently in my opinion our backups have not shown NFL starting performace. Baker Mayfield is a question mark, but better than anyone else currently on the roster. Do we think their is a QB out their who has been released or a rookie that will take the Rams to the playoffs?

Re: Rams Given a Strong Proposal on What to do With Baker Mayfield
If Baker is as intelligent as some say he is, he will stay with the Rams this season and really learn this offense. Stafford is on the decline and may not last the entire season.
The Rams are a good fit for Baker Mayfield; delay gratification for a nice payday down the road.
End up on a crummie team and you can kiss your career goodbye after a 3rd strike out.

Re: Rams Given a Strong Proposal on What to do With Baker Mayfield
I don't think Mayfield is dumb enough to voluntarily go to a bad team. I could see the Falcons, Saints, and 9ers having interest. All 3 IMO would be good fits for him. While I agree that the *currenr* Rams are a good fit for him, he's got to be as weary as we are that Mcvay may be gone by the time Stafford is gone. The question then becomes, will he be a good fit for the next gen Rams? I would have to think that has got to be a part of his decision making as well.Claremontram wrote: ↑March 4th, 2023, 10:33 am If Baker is as intelligent as some say he is, he will stay with the Rams this season and really learn this offense. well the report out today is the 49ers are interested. This should be a priority for the Rams IMO. I just don't think Stafford is going to make it the entire year.

Re: Rams Given a Strong Proposal on What to do With Baker Mayfield
It's a weird year for QB's. There are potentially four first rounders, Rogers possibly being in play, I wouldn't rule out Brady doing an about face, and a lot of FA's that are kind of lumped in the same talent level as Mayfield, which could drive down his market value on top of limiting his chances to start. It's possible that when Mayfield weighs his options the Rams are his best chance at winning and they can make a fairly competitive offer. That's the scenario that I could see him coming back.ocram23 wrote: ↑March 6th, 2023, 6:52 pmand what do you say if Baker replies I want to win???? OC:
Win now is the million dollar question. I hope BM takes a long-term perspective and see his future with our Rams. It's only a hope on my part.
And yes, this next season is looking very bleak as we jettison players to create cap space. Oline, Pass rush, RB, DB all need to be upgraded.
We will see.

Re: Rams Given a Strong Proposal on What to do With Baker Mayfield
Guaranteed 4 QB's are drafted within the top 15. I saw a mock yesterday that had Richardson going #1 overall. Granted I think that is ridiculous but you get my drift on how high he has shot up after his combine workout. I still think Baker wants to start somewhere but I could be wrong. Maybe he is going to go after the most money? Or maybe he wants to win and goes to the team who has the best chance? Yes there is still a possibility he stays with the Rams but I do think that is slimwildram01 wrote: ↑March 6th, 2023, 8:14 pmIt's a weird year for QB's.
