Every year there is a story that changes the draft. This year it is Jalen F'N Carter.
This story is beyond tragic. Below are the details that have been reported:
* Drag racing between Jalen's car and teammates car.
* 2 people DIED
* Driver of other car was 3 times over the legal limit of alcohol
* Jalen fled the scene and came back 2 hours later. He has stated 2 stories so far.
A. He wasn't there and heard the crash so he came back
B. He was driving behind him. When he did come back the officer on the scene said Jalen did smell of alcohol.
Bottom Line for me:
There already was character issues prior to this incident. He is a great talent no doubt but if I was a GM he is a hard pass. I don't care how good he is this kid once he gets millions is going to be a huge disappointment.

Re: Jalen Carter
he has changed his story a couple of times now. crazy he was not arrested at least for a DUI when he came back. But I think he was smart enough where someone drove him back. Either way 2 people died. You have to be smarter than this knowing what your future is. We are talking about the overall #1 pick.Jodat43 wrote: ↑March 1st, 2023, 1:51 pmYou are 100% correct. Tragic? I find stuff like this pathetically hilarious, if you catch my drift...ocram23 wrote: ↑March 1st, 2023, 1:39 pm Every year there is a story that changes the draft. This year it is Jalen F'N Carter.

with 2 people dying yes I would say that falls under the tragic category.BrooklynRam74 wrote: ↑March 1st, 2023, 2:08 pmTragic? Akin to Michael Vick throwing away his career to go into dog-fighting. The intelligence level on some people is just pitiful. Re: Jalen Carter
funny how Jalen got all pissed off a couple of months again when McShay came out and reported that some teams had questions about his character. Well guess what maybe Todd was right and just maybe the report was accurate. Question now is does he fall and if so how far.BrooklynRam74 wrote: ↑March 1st, 2023, 2:36 pmAkin to Michael Vick throwing away his career to go into dog-fighting. I wouldn't draft him in the 7th round now. Whoever drafts him is getting nothing but a problem.ocram23 wrote: ↑March 1st, 2023, 2:41 pmfunny how Jalen got all pissed off a couple of months again when McShay came out and reported that some teams had questions about his character. Re: Jalen Carter
There is also work ethic concerns with him.
But regarding this ordeal.. its tough. Virtually everyone who's young drives fast when they first get cars or a lisence. I wrecked a Z28 Camero at 140 mph when I was 17 or 18. Completely stupid luck I didn't die or a miracle. I'd like to think someone who could be the number 1 pick would be smarter then this. Unfortunately, smart choices and youth rarely go to together.

AGREED! this situation is somewhat similar to the Leonard Little incident. After the fact, Little grew up and to this day lives with the guilt and remorse of it.HellRam wrote: ↑March 1st, 2023, 6:25 pm There is also work ethic concerns with him.

This and along with your comment, I would use a 7th on Carter in hopes that he grows up and doesn't wind up in prison for manslaughter. I personally believe he should be, btw. worst case is that not a lot will be lost with that investment... unless that 7th is Brock Purdy, LOL. Same thing with his work habit report.

Re: Jalen Carter
He'll still go in the first or second round IMO. I'd take him in round 2 if he's sitting there when we pick. No way he'll not get drafted. What he did was stupid but I doubt that stops him from being drafted...
Judge our new coach in his third year. After all our last coach was to game strategy what Yoko Ono was to the Beatles...

Re: Jalen Carter
To my knowledge he's just been charged with reckless driving and racing. The fatalities happened in a different vehicle. So I doubt manslaughter is on the table at the moment.CierraRam wrote: ↑March 2nd, 2023, 8:30 amAGREED! this situation is somewhat similar to the Leonard Little incident. Re: Jalen Carter
I tend to agree. Racing charges won't stop a team from drafting him. I'd be surprised if he slips past the 3rd.crazy-legs wrote: ↑March 2nd, 2023, 12:18 pm He'll still go in the first or second round IMO. I'd take him in round 2 if he's sitting there when we pick. Re: Jalen Carter
Nose ...right on the
Far too much of that and it leads to far too many consequences for people other than themselves. From this sort of idiocy which cost two lives, to myriad batterings/assaults on untold women as well as those reported and only the universe know what else.
Look at the kid on Bama's BB team .. being looked into for supplying the gun used by another to commit murder.
Until these kids stop getting the "get out of jail free" card for everything and anything they do from whatever age their abilities begin to show, it's going to stay like this.
That's just sad
