Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
Yea, there's always tricky little items and wording and that's why teams have capologists.
I do know this....say a guy signs a 5 year contract and gets a 10 million signing bonus...he gets the 10 million right away and the team can spread the amount over the 5 years against the cap....so....if they backload 8 million of the cap hit to years 4 and 5 and then trade him after 3 years...they still owe the 8 million cap hit.

Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
Take it for what it is worth…….
“ The Rams would save $5.6 million in cap space if they trade Ramsey, who has three years and $74.6 million cap number remaining on a five-year, $100 million contract that started in 2021. ”
It appears we made the trade to not have to deal with him moving forward in regards to contract demands. The trade doesn’t do much in freeing up $ for the 23 season…….

Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
I get doing all this next year after AD possibly retires and Stafford is that much older. But doing it now still seems counter productive.
7/8 wins is too much for a real shot at a QB in the draft in 2023. So the hope is Stafford can actually hold up for atleast 2 or 3 years in time to be around for the finished rebuild? I'm still perplexed what the end game is here?

Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
From Breer:
Some more background on the Rams’ end of this …
• Rams clear cap/cash—something had to give, this is it.
• Return for LA limited by teams scared off on contract asks of a 29-year-old CB.
• Had it not been a team Ramsey was excited by,
ask might’ve been bigger.

My senses never left……..
Rebuild isn’t isn’t defined as just one year. Last year wasn’t a rebuild in the eye of the team in August I guarantee……..
I rarely budge easily lol and that holds true here………

Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
More from Breer:
Rams like TE Hunter Long coming out, and third-rounder gives LA another way to bring affordable talent on.
• Rams like their young CBs (Cobie Durant, Derion Kendrick, Robert Rochell).
• Dolphins get a versatile piece that fits Vic Fangio’s defense.
• Rams had 5 suitors.
JMO not happy with a lot of what he said as it relates to Rams thinking with this trade. Again 4 other suitors? Those 4 didn’t have a better offer than the one they settled on? Why again the need to provide a solid to Ramsey?………

Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
Ramsey wanted a new deal including the last two years guaranteed. This reduced the teams willing to trade for him. Rams also wanted him out of the NFC.

Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
So does anyone else want to question that we aren’t setting up 2024 yet?
Goodness gracious… writing has been on the wall for weeks.
2023 is a building year w the young guys. Draft a crap load and get rid of the dead weight and dead cap…
2024… first round picks. Tons of cap space and an owner that will splurge.
One step back to get two forward boys…
But if you ya’ll want to say we’re going to be really competitive for ‘23… well, if was nice knowing you fans. Lol.

I think the concern of having to potentially game plan for a player is a weak one. Doesn’t show a lot of confidence………
I will never be convinced they couldn’t have done better than a 3rd round pick……..

Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
I guess Jaylen Ramsey lost a lot of value playing for us. Either that or we buy high and sell low.
We coughed up (2) 1st's and a 4th to get him and only get back at 3rd and a possible stiff.

Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
The reason to me we didn’t get better than a 3rd imo was in the Cornell post on what Ramsey was demanding w a new contract and more guaranteed money.
Now, if JR wasn’t so demanding, we should have gotten a 2nd, maybe even a 1st…
Who knows. But, bizarre… I agree

Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
That's the way I'm looking at it. I guess that's the way I GOTTA look at it. 23 might be another painful year, but it's a build towards 24. It's the NFL, and the cap. All teams that live in the top for a few years eventually have to pay the visa bill. Just hope they use the picks wisely, and have plenty of cap space this time next year.DelMar wrote: ↑March 12th, 2023, 1:02 pm So does anyone else want to question that we aren’t setting up 2024 yet?

Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
yes I think it is a foregone conclusion to not think the Rams will have a top 10 pick in 2024. Floyd is next and possibly Higbee. Also other guys not begin resigned. 2023 is going to be a long year but I think most of us realize this was the reality due to going all in for the SB win.

Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
I'll hold off judgement on Long until I see what Mcvay does with him. Miami's starting TE had 52 targets. Higbee had 108. Miami obviously doesn't value the TE in the passing game. Long did have 700 yards receiving his final year of college. So I'm going to try and be optimistic.

But this in the NFL. A league that values his position and is still considered by many as a top tier player at his position. I don’t think his contract demands scares off all……..
I for some reason think this has a lot to do with the rams doing what Ramsey wanted as much as anything once they decided they were going to trade him. JMO if true not a good business practice.

Re: Ramsey to Miami…….
Floyd was cut already. The Ramsey deal frees up some money in 23 and more in 24 which might be used to sign Gaines or Robinson. I look at the NFC in general and still see the Rams contending for the NFC West and a playoff spot if Kupp and Stafford return to health. Rams have the draft capital to do a 2017 type reload as opposed to a total rebuild. They just need a great draft like 2017. With draft choices at 36, 69 and 77 they can find players at positions of need that can help immediately and still have 8 draft picks to get much needed depth at cap friendly prices. This is a retool not a rebuild.ocram23 wrote: ↑March 12th, 2023, 1:17 pm yes I think it is a foregone conclusion to not think the Rams will have a top 10 pick in 2024.
