I predicted BM to the NFC south, but thought it would be N.O. Or Atl. I'm sure he was only looking for a 1 year deal. Smart choice, Give a him a shot at started a money the following year.

Former No. 1 pick Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached agreement on a one-year contract worth up to $8.5 million, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

Mayfield's deal starts at $4 million, a source told ESPN's Jenna Laine.

The Buccaneers needed a veteran quarterback with the ability to start to compete with 2021 second-round draft pick Kyle Trask.

General manager Jason Licht said at the NFL combine that the Buccaneers "have a lot of faith in Kyle." But going from third string to a starter and following in the footsteps of seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady would be a tall ask for any player, let alone one who saw his first NFL regular-season snaps ever in Week 18.

Would have gladly taken him back if there were not starting gigs available to him (which I did not think there would be).

But I can fault neither Baker for wanting the shot to start, nor the Rams for not paying that number.

Agree. Having him back would have been nice, but not for $8.5 million. Far short of what some people thought he'd get and not enough to guarantee he's their starter, but he should beat out Trask. Say thanks for the memories and move on is all the Rams could do. If he proves he can still be a legit starter, we might get another crack at him next year.

Call me crazy, but he was just an odd signing w us to begin with. I think he'll do better elsewhere. Plus, what QB can survive behind our awful OL. Baker is not in cards for us in 2023 and beyond.

We are about to build something special and lasting imo. And I think that starts w a QB in the draft this season.

Here is what I think is going to happen. Stafford may not make it through the entire season, and we wont win a ton of games in 2023. So Sean puts in the Rookie to give him experience... then BOOM, we may have your QB of the future.

BUT... could happen this draft or next. Im not sure if we move for a QB this year or next.

What kind of draft pick might we get for him. I'm hoping for a 4th next year. He provided some excitement in what was a dismal year. I'm thinking of the comeback win over the Raiders. Best of luck to him.

Not a great move by BM. He was never going to be handed a starting gig, but Tampa is in decline and their O line also stinks. Also unproven offensive coordinator.

not sure what other choices he had. I think they have a better roster than the Rams

Bucs have lost a lot of talent and gotten old. They are in rebuild mode and don’t have any cap space. They just want a placeholder for their next QB. Tampa’s offensive line was in shambles from injuries and retirement last year. Brady didn’t have a chance despite having one of the quickest releases in football. They are going to struggle again this year but 8-9 might win the South again because it’s going to be a weak division again.

If Baker doesn't hit it out the park in Tampa, he won't get another starting job and he'll wish he stayed with the Rams

Just wondering what the Rams offered and did they even offer him a contract? Also what did Baker see behind the scenes that the fan base didn't? Was he turned off by the culture in LA?
Have no idea but would love to ask him that.

None of the above.

He got 8.5 Million which the Rams weren't doing for a backup AND Mayfield would rightfully rather START than backup.
