Why can't we get a break with our OL?

Post by malibu »

Last year i thought was a huge anomaly so I figured we were in general good for this season.

We must be cursed. Both Boom and AJ go down. Hope the trend doesn't continue.

Thomas needs to let go and not be coddled over that performance it was a total embarrassment. I blame McVay for not putting a TE on the PL to chip or block to keep the Left side of caving in.

watching the NFL so far in just 3 weeks I have never seen a position, group wise, so bad. The OL's around the league are awful and have zero depth. Rams obviously aren't the only ones with this issue. I have heard the excuse they aren't coaching them properly in college but something has to chance or these QB's are going to get killed.

They have no roster depth. Their backups are prob not even NFL caliber. That Z Thomas was comical. Rams operate with zero margin of error. Their line is better if all their guys remain healthy. Good luck with that.

A huge part of it is play calling.

Play calling and moving a TE over to help out. Horrible play calling, but the OL had a bad night.

Boom needs to go. He is a walking injury. Dude cannot stay healthy and this is the 2nd straight game he's had an issue, get Dotson or someone else in and see if we trade Boom to some sucker

Imo less the playing calling and more about keeping a TE to block on the left side until the team feels comfortable Thomas can handle it.

Like I have said in other posts SF routinely has 6 to 7 men blocking for Purdy. McVay got away from it again like he has in previous seasons. Leaving 5 men in to block is not going to work in the NFL. He was doing that in the first 2 games and got away from it this game. We don't need 5 out in the pattern our wra just need to win their matchups. If Stafford is always thinking about the rush his mind will become very distracted and rush throws, overthrow throw and miss seeing the field because his mind is elsewhere. When he has time he is deadly. When he is rushed the results are obvious like last night.

I blame McVay/LaFleur for our loss last night with some on Stafford and the poor assessment of our ROOKIE OL coach he should have known Thomas's abilities and told McVay to keep another man in until Thomas shows he can stand on his own.

McVay needs to trust his WRs more and his Oline less. Leaving 6 or 7 guys in to block with 4 or 3 out in routes is still preferable.

McVay always wants to attack the perfect matchup but sometimes it’s better to just keep a QB fully clean in the pocket and trust he will find a guy open even if it’s just 3 guys in a route

Stafford is deadly when he has time and feels safe back there. He is useless when pressure comes. For the most part. He had Happy feet all night and it showed in his passes. Protect him and run more. Use Skow as a fullback if needed to get some yards. He called it like an idiot. Sorry. But we did the same thing all night....so Cincy did too. OL had a bad night, but they coulda used some help in play called and formation. Keep drafting studs up front.

I am not a big x and o guy, never really played the game too much but when it so obvious to event he untrained eye that your left tackle is completely unqualified why in the heck did they not make adjustments. As someone else said, surely he hasn't been the back up plan all along. I would have rather seen Bryan Allen stick his nose in there and he is undersized. Wasn't this guy a fireman or something?

The OL played very well the first two games because the played a physical, balanced game. This game was 10000% on McVay and games like this IS what gets players injured.

Are we really surprised with Boom? it's the same old story year after year, Shoulder bruise against Niners. Can this guy play with a little bit of pain...NO!! We continue with the same old crap with this line, it looked really good in game one and was a total embarrassment overall, not just Thomas last night. This offense will only be as good as Stafford performs, it no secret, yet we continue to ignore the line thinking these guys are just fine.

Yes, Avila was a great move, and we have a great player for years to come. And although I like Alaric Jackson, bottom line is he was undrafted for some reason, yet we are trusting our season on him protecting Stafford's blindside. What is frustrating to me is our fan base, the line has a good game, and everybody is praising them, then they tank for 2 or 3. Again, if we are to win with Stafford, we must improve this line. How about a trade for a Lineman instead of a WR of CB this time?

Saw a 2024 Mock Draft with us picking at 5 I believe, obviously we will miss out on Williams if he comes out, but it had us taking the OT from Penn St., Olumuyiwa Fashanu who is called a massive blocker with elite athleticism for the position. Would love to see this, I'm sure it won't be happening.

scouting dept and the coaches need to do a better job with this group. Expecting an undrafted player to be elite in the NFL is unrealistic in my opinion. They need to scout these guys better and draft the right guys like Avilia, at least so far.

My point is the OL didn't need to have a bad night (6 sacks given up) if McVay and LaFleur kept a TE and a back into block and releasing the back after assessing how the OL is holding up giving us a minimum of 6 blocking and sometimes 7.
