With Carson Wentz headed to L.A., the #Rams are waiving QB Brett Rypien, per source.
Two days after starting against the #Packers, Rypien will head to waivers while Wentz becomes Matthew Stafford’s backup.

Re: Rypien Waived
I guess Rypien is taking the bullet for the Rams inability to sign and develop a backup QB. I think most intelligent people know that the guilty parties are actually Les Snead and Sean McVay.

Separate issue in the Rams failure at back-up QB and Rypien just being a bad QB.

Rypien took a bullet because when you're a sitting duck and don't do your job well, you're toast.Guest wrote: ↑November 7th, 2023, 3:31 pmI guess Rypien is taking the bullet for the Rams inability to sign and develop a backup QB. As far as who's guilty... Rams aren't trying to win much this year. So who cares who we sign. Let's just build on what we can, and NOT spend a penny more that could affect our future in a negative way.

Re: Rypien Waived
Agreed but Rypien had to go. The rams offense has to at least be functional so that the young players on offense can continue to learn, grow and get reps.DelMar wrote: ↑November 7th, 2023, 4:13 pmRypien took a bullet because when you're a sitting duck and don't do your job well, you're toast.Guest wrote: ↑November 7th, 2023, 3:31 pm

Rypien couldn't even run the offense a little bit. He had to go. Part of 2023 plan is to get more growth for the young players. How are tbe young guys supposed to get better with Rypien running the offense?
Mcvay screwed up and quickly corrected his screw up

Re: Rypien Waived
They're guilty for keeping Brett Rypien around as our team's backup QB for so long as they did, with Sean McVay spouting nonsensical gibberish about the guy being some sort of "a pro's pro."Guest wrote: ↑November 7th, 2023, 3:31 pm

However, the McVay/Snead regime's foolish incompetence in that area actually extended Rypien's NFL career, such as it was, didn't it?
So what did Rypien 'take the bullet' for? Well, that was for playing QB at a Pop Warner level vs. the Packers, which was his personal failure...

Re: Rypien Waived
I think it’s unfortunate that the Rams were in the position that they were in on Sunday. Brett Rypien was terrible but was anyone surprised? The Bennett situation complicated things but the Rams knew before the first game was played that he wasn’t going to be available this season. There’s no timetable for Rehab obviously. They rolled the dice thinking Matt Stafford who missed significant time in 2022 was going to be available for every down in a 17 game season. That’s just stupid! Now they are bringing in a veteran backup which is actually progress.DelMar wrote: ↑November 7th, 2023, 4:13 pmRypien took a bullet because when you're a sitting duck and don't do your job well, you're toast.Guest wrote: ↑November 7th, 2023, 3:31 pm

From what I’ve seen over time in professional sports is that teams that “ aren’t trying to win much “ become very good at losing. And in most cases they continue to be good at losing.
Let’s hope that’s not the case for the Rams

Re: Rypien Waived
I’ll admit because I posted it last week, I thought that even with RIPien the Rams defense could win it because GB has been so lame. I thought that with a conservative run game and avoidance of turnovers, just field goals could lead to win. For most of the game, the defense did provide those opportunities. I wasn’t that far off. But overall the Rams were just too lousy.

Re: Rypien Waived
I hear that, as it is usually the case. I think the Rams aren't trying to lose, but also not really caring about winning as we are setting up for '24. imo we are saving it all for this off-season and will sign the solid vets we need and hopefully hit on the draft.Raminec wrote: ↑November 7th, 2023, 7:46 pmI think it’s unfortunate that the Rams were in the position that they were in on Sunday. I also do not believe Kronk would allow another season like this one, as he has the deep pockets to sign whoever we want as money is no issue for our owner. What I was stoked about is when we finally admitted we needed to take the hits and stop kicking the can down the road. We took all our lumps this season. It just had to be done. You just cannot be really competetive when you have $72M going to dead cap. Sure you may have some good games, but it is not sustainable to continue to win.
Thank goodness we hit on our past draft, as that is really the foundation of what I believe will be the beginning of a dynasty starting next season.
In 2024, do I believe we have a shot at a SB? No, not at all actually. But what I do believe is that we will make the playoffs and have a winning season.
The one wildcard to me is IF Stafford, AD or even McVay retires or moves on...
Your thoughts?
